VILLA goalkeeper Jed Steer has signed a new one year deal after emerging as a first choice in goal for Dean Smith.
Steer was expected to spend most games on the bench after being recalled from his loan spell at Charlton when Orjan Nyland was ruled out for the rest of the season with an Achilles injury
But Steer, who had been impressing at The Valley under Lee Bowyer, stepped up when Croatia keeper Lovre Kalinic suffered concussion during the home game with West Brom which the Baggies won 2-0.

Steer’s deal was up this summer but he will now have at least one more season at Villa.
But it now seems the contrast extension was agreed doing January.
Steer has been in goal for Villa’s last five Championship games – his longest run of games for the club since signing on a free transfer in 2013.
Paul Lambert signed him with Steer effectively following him from Carrow Road after he was released by Norwich City.
He has also kept clean three sheets during a spell which has seen Villa return to the play-off spots.
