VILLA have been linked with a summer move for French goalkeeper Quentin Beunardeau.
Portugese website Record says Villa are going head to head to head with their former manager Steve Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday to try and bring the 25-year-old CD Aves player to England.
The report is a puzzling one as Villa have three senior keepers on their books already.
They have just handed Jed Steer a contract extension and spent £6million on Croatia keeper Lovre Kalinic in January.
However, Kalinic has taken time to settle at Villa and has also come under fire at international level.
Despite that, a goalkeeper does not appear to be top of Dean Smith’s wishlist.
But Wednesday, are set to lose the experienced Kieren Westwood when his contract expires in July – so the link makes more sense in that there could be a gap for him to fill at Hillsborough.
Beunardeau left Metz for Portugal last summer.
He is a former France U20 international and has so far made 19 Primeira Liga appearances this season – keeping five clean sheets for Aves who are fighting relegation. French clubs Montpellier or Nice are also interested according to Record
