VILLA boss Dean Smith says John McGinn typifies his side’s revitalised promotion bid.
A fifth successive win keeps Villa in the top six after their 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.
And with Middlesbrough losing to Norwich, Villa have gained more ground in their play-off aim.
Villa have plenty of star individuals at the moment.
But Smith says players like McGinn are bringing them together as a team.
The Villa manager said: “John epitomises what we’re about with his work ethic and attitude.
“We want to be a good team, not full of individuals – he shows that.
“In the last minute, he runs from one side of the pitch to the other to take it in the corner and see out the game.
“It’s what he’s about – he’s a great team player, full of desire and energy.
“He’s a big asset to Aston Villa.”
Smith has seen his team produce an incredible month of results.
It all started with a 4-0 hammering of Derby County – who beat Rotherham 6-1 this weekend.
And the performance levels have barely dropped in the following weeks.
Smith said: “To go and win five games in a row at this level is a tough thing to do.
“We’ve beaten some big teams who are in the top positions.
“We’ve got to Birmingham and won, beaten Derby and Middlesbrough. It’s been really pleasing. But we can’t stop now. We’ve put ourselves right in the mix.”
“Our aim is to keep climbing and be in that top six come the end of the season.”
