Former Villa boss ready for ‘spicy’ Hillsborough clash against the club who sacked him in October and brought in Dean Smith
STEVE Bruce admits Jack Grealish is the best player in the Championship.
Bruce was speaking ahead of his first reunion with former club Villa since he was sacked in October.
And he pinpointed in-form Grealish as Villa’s dangerman.
Something has to give at Hillsborough – Villa have won their last five league games to make them contenders for the play-offs, while Bruce has yet to lose since taking charge of Owls.
And Bruce knows enough about Villa’s squad to be able to put together an in-depth game plan.
But he realises Grealish could be the man to turn those preparations upside down.
Bruce played a part in turning Grealish into a player who is totally focused on his game.
The Wednesday boss told the Sheffield Star: “Jack is a very, very good player is the kid and, for me, he will have a wonderful career.
“I think he has matured over the last 18 months.
“He is easily the best player in the division so we will have to be wary of him.”
But Bruce knows Grealish is not Villa’s only threat. He signed John McGinn from Hibernian for a knockdown £2.8million.
And he has worked with Ahmed Elmohamady at Hull before he moved to Villa.
Bruce also brought in 22-goal striker Tammy Abraham in on loan from Chelsea last summer.
The ex-Villa boss added: ”They’ve got some good players. And I always said they would be there or thereabouts.
“When you’re in constant change, it takes time.
“I know most of the players. Of course I do. I brought a lot of them to the club.
“We know the ins and outs of them, but make no mistake it will be a tough game for us.
“They’bve got some good players but so have we.
“It’ll be a big game and there’ll be a big crowd. It’s what we play football for and there’s a bit of spice because of who I managed before.”
