VILLA midfielder John McGinn is among the nominations for the PFA Championship player of the month award for March.
The Scot has pipped team-mate and Villa skipper Jack Grealish to make the short list of six players for the Bristol Street Motors sponsored prize.
McGinn’s inclusion is no surprise, even if Grealish did get a head start on him.
When Grealish made his return to the Villa side after injury against Derby, McGinn was serving the second match of a two-game suspension.
And he was named as a sub for the win at Blues – but when he came on, he made a difference to help Villa win 1-0 at St Andrew’s.
But McGinn, 24, then his three goals in four matches as he rediscovered his form and sparked Villa’s renewed play-off bid.
He scored twice at Nottingham Forest and again in the home win over Middlesbrough.
McGinn’s form has carried on into April as he brought Villa back into the game at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday with a superb equaliser.
The other nominations are: Emiliano Buendia (Norwich), Jack O’Connell (Sheffield United), Semi Ajayi (Rotherham) and Luke Ayling and Pablo Hernandez (both Leeds)
