Grealish absence means big test

By Graham Hill

VILLA’S play off bid will be put to the test even more today with captain Jack Grealish out through illness.

The shock news came just before their play-off clash with Bristol City.

And it means the man who has been the inspiration for Villa’s revival in recent weeks will be on the sidelines.

That heaps more responsibility on John McGinn’s shoulders – but the Scot is likely to welcome it with open arms.

And Grealish’s replacement is vetertan midfielder Glenn Whelan who has put in some strong performances himself during Villa’s seven match winning run.

The other change is enforced with Tyrone Mings out of the game after being sent off against Rotherham in midweek.

Mile Jedinak deputised for the on loan Bournemouth defence at the New York Stadium and boss Dean Smith is happy enough for him to stay in the side.

Villa Park is sold out and yet another obstacle has been put in the way of Smith’s play-off bid.

But there should be enough talent in this Villa side to take something from the game.

The match also sees two Villa old boys, Andi Weimann and sub Nathan Baker, the squad for City.
