Dean: El Ghazi learning all the time

By Graham Hill

ASTON Villa boss Dean Smith has hailed Anwar El-Ghazi’s recent displays as playing a key role in Villa’s Play-off push.

The Dutchman was voted man of the match against Bristol City and is proving to be one of Villa’s most dangerous players.

El-Ghazi, currently on loan from Lille, had been one of Villa’s unsung heroes with Jack Grealish, Tammy Abraham and John McGinn claiming the limelight.

But Smith told Villa’s official TV channel he wants more consistency from the former Ajax player.

Smith said: “He’s been good.

“We keep talking to him about consistency and Bristol City was one of his better performances this season.

“It’s tough when someone comes in from another league. Usually you get a bit of time for adaptation. He hasn’t had that.

“He’s been thrown right in among it. He’s learned on his feet a little bit. He’s shown what a really good player he is.

“He got the assist for Conor’s goal and put some really good balls in. He could probably have had another three or four assists in that game.

“It was a really good performance from him and we want more of the same. We want that to be more of his standard – rather than up and down. He knows that. He’s aware of that. He’s working on that.”
