DEAN Smith reckons re-writing history will mean nothing if Aston Villa do not clinch promotion.
Villa could make it NINE wins in a row today if they come out on top at relegation threatened Bolton.
That would equal their best ever run which was set an incredible 109 years ago in 1910!
It would then allow them the chance to set a new record against Millwall on Monday.
For Villa fan Smith it would be a special achievement.
But he knows that changing the record books will count for nothing if Villa do not build on this run – and return to the top flight after three seasons away.
Villa are already on their best run in 44 years.
But when asked what equalling the record would mean, Smith replied: “Not a lot unless we get promoted.
“The ambition’s here to get to the Premier League.
“We need to make sure we’re in the Play-offs first to give ourselves a chance of that.
“To do that, we have to get some kind of record.
“And I’d have great pride in equalling it.
“I don’t think there are too many people alive who will have seen it at the time!
“But I also know there’s a longer-term view involved in this.
“I’ll probably look back and say: ‘What a feat that was’ if we do it.
“But we have to beat Bolton first and that’s our concentration.
“We have to make sure their focus is right, attitude and application are the two key words we use around this place.”
