VILLA have been tipped to sign Everton defender Ashley Williams on a free transfer this summer.
The Sun claims boss Dean Smith wants to bring the Wales international to Villa Park when his Goodison contract runs out at the end of the season.
But it is reported that Huddersfield Town are also interested along with MLS teams DC United and New York City.
Williams is on £70,000 a week at Everton and has been on loan with Stoke City.
But at 34, Williams does not sound like the sort of player that would fit into Smith’s plans.
And if Villa are promoted, they would be more likely to try and make Tyrone Mings’ loan deal a permanent one.
They are also expected to try and bring Axel Tuanzebe back in on loan from Manchester United.
Villa also have James Chester in their ranks and he is expected to be fully fit again before the end of this season.
Smith also wants to sign Kortney Hause from Wolves and he can play at centre half or left-back.
