ASTON VILLA chief executive Christian Purslow says there will be NO celebration parade – despite winning promotion back to the Premier League.
Villa have made the decision not to board an open-topped bus and have a civic reception.
And Purslow says those sort of occasions are reserved for winners – not for teams who claimed the third promotion place.
Instead, he and boss Dean Smith will be getting straight down to work and concentrating on building a squad for the top flight.
Purslow told Villa’s official TV channel: “We got asked a lot about this, and Dean and I should make this clear, I want to say this.
“A few people have asked why wasn’t there a big parade.
“Even our friends at the local council have been concerned that it might’ve been their call.
“It wasn’t. Dean and I talked about it for under 10 seconds about a week ago, and we both had an identical reaction.
“That was: ‘We’re Aston Villa, we have parades when we win cups and leagues, not when we get promoted, effectively third.
“We had a wonderful day and a wonderful 23 hours of celebrations.”
Smith added: “Everyone knows I’m an Aston Villa fan. I was fortunate to get on the bus when they carried that European Cup around.
“There’s been a European Cup and a League Championship, which is now the Premier League. But for the Play-off final? No. We’re back where we should be. We have to make sure we go from here now.”
