Report: ‘Ayew on Villa radar’

By Phil Jennings

THE name Ayew could be returning to Villa Park according to the Football Ghana website.

Villa boss Dean Smith has been showing an interest in signing Swansea City Andre Ayew says the African outlet.

Ayew’s brother Jordan is a former Villa player but he left the club after a season and a half during which they were relegated to the Championship.

Jordan is also at Swansea but spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace. Andre, 29, was on loan at Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce, where he made 38 appearances in all competitions including five in the Europa League.

Football Ghana says that Villa manager Dean Smith is looking to strengthen his ranks ahead of their return to the top flight after a three-year absence – and he has identified Ayew as a possible signing, while the Swans are looking to offload the player in order to cut costs.

Ayew has played in England for the past three years, originally signing for Swansea in June 2015 before making the switch to West Ham United the following year.

He stayed with the Hammers until January 2018, when he moved back to Swansea, but he could not prevent them from the being relegated to the Championship.

The player, who has a contract at Swansea for another two years, has been named by Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah as the Black Stars captain ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
