The Guardian says the deal could be done in the next 24 hours after Villa triggered the option to but the player for a fee expected to be in the region of £8million.

Smith could bring his tally of signings to four if he snaps up two other loanees – Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause from Bournemouth and Wolves.
Villa have already taken up their option on Molineux defender Hause and are expected to sign him in a £3million deal.
