VILLA boss Dean Smith could be about to swoop for another of his former Brentford players.
Reports in France claim Villa have made a bid of around £9million for Said Benrahma.
This is a player who Smith took to Griffin Park last summer and in his first season in England he scored 11 goals with 17 assists.
The Le 10 Sport site says Smith is looking for a reunion with the 23-year-old winger.
It would be no surprise to see Smith return for the Algerian who he brought in from Nice last summer.
Smith has been looking to strengthen Villa’s wide areas and has already brought in Jota – another of his ex-Brentford players – and is preparing to turn Anwat El Ghazi’s loan move from Lille into an £8million permanent deal.
Clearly, Smith is looking for strength in depth at Villa after losing a large chunk of the promotion winning squad whose contracts ran out or who returned to their parent clubs after being on loan at Villa Park.
Smith is already thought to be considering a move for Brentford striker Neal Maupay in a bid which would be around the £20millon mark.
The site also says other clubs are interested in Benrahma and Villa could be facing competition in the race to sign him. This is yet another name being linked with Villa abroad now that they are returning to the Premier League. But the link between Smith and Benrahma is a solid one.
