Report: Villa are on Targett

By Graham Hill

VILLA have made a reported bid for Southampton left-back Matt Targett.

The Sun claim that Villa want the Saints defender for around £10million.

But the HITC site says Villa may have to go higher than that if they want to seal a deal for the 23-year-old.

Fulham had a £10million offer rejected by Southampton a year ago and Targett has become more experienced since then.

That came after Targett had impressed on loan at Craven Cottage – helping them win promotion.

Fulham did not raise their offer and Targett stayed with Southampton.

Villa are looking for players in all positions at the moment and were reported to have offered more than £7million for rising Luton left-back James Justin – but he is believed to be a heading for Leicester City.

Southampton boss Ralph Hassnhuttl could see Targett as a long-term replacement for Ryan Bertrand who turns 30 in August. Targett started 13 Premier League games last season and made 20 appearances in all.
