VILLA have been reportedly put off by Brentford’s asking price of £20million for Benrahma.
The Algerian forward is a clear target for Villa boss Dean Smith who knows the player from his time at Griffin Park.
But Villa’s supposed opening bid of £9million was rejected according to the Le 10 Sport site.
And Villa have been told to double it if they want to sign the winger who can also operate as a striker.
The twist here is that Smith is said to have moved for Brazilian striker Wesley after being warned off Benrahma according to Sky Sports.
Villa’s move for Wesley came out of the blue and saw them break their club transfer record with a £22million deal.
But Villa still appear interested in Benrhama even if they will not pay Brentford’s asking price.
And Smith is also keen to make a move for Neal Maupay although Brentford will also want £20million.
Le 10 Sport say that there are other Premier League clubs interested in Benrahma and that Villa will face competition for the player for a player who scored 10 goals last season and assisted in 15.
He had an excellent first season in English football after a £1.5million move from Ligue1 side Nice and Brentford will clearly profit hugely from any sale.
