VILLA transfer target Kalvin Phillips has hinted he is ready to stay at Leeds United this summer.
The defensive midfielder is on boss Dean Smith’s wishlist and Villa are ready to bid £14million for the highly rated player.
But he has told Sky Sports that he owes a debt to the club – and shows no signs of wanting to move on.
Phillips said: “I’ve dreamt of this since I was a little boy.
“Just playing at this club and them giving me the opportunity to do that, I am forever grateful.
“I think with the team that we’ve got we deserve to be in the Premier League, but it didn’t happen.”
But Phillips says that manager Marcelo Bielsa’s decision to commit himself to Elland Road has made him think the same way.
He added: “The team that we’ve still got and the manager staying builds real confidence in the team.
“We’ll be looking to get a really good season under way.”
Of course, although the player is unlikely to rock the boat publicly, things can change.
Phillips will be offered to a route to the Premier League with Villa and if a big enough offer is tabled then Smith could yet get his man.
At 23, Phillips, nicknamed the Yorkshire Pirlo, fits the bill in terms of the type of player Villa are looking for.
