NEW Villa signing Ezri Konsa admitted he was ‘speechless’ after his £12million move from Brentford.
Boss Dean Smith moved in to snap up a player he had worked with during his spell at Griffin Park.
And the England Under-21 defender could hardly believe the way things have worked out.
Konsa now finds himself part of Villa’s Premier League set up – something that did not seem possible a year ago when he joined Brentford from Charlton Athletic.
He told Villa’s club TV channel: “To be honest, I’m speechless right now. It’s a dream come true.
“As a little kid, I always used to dream about playing in the Premier League.
“For it to come true now is a fantastic feeling for me and my family.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of facing the top players in the world.”
“I’m over the moon. To join such a historic, massive club like Aston Villa is great. I can’t wait to meet the lads now and get started.”
Konsa says the fact he knows Smith and assistant Richard O’Kelly already from his time at Brentford is a huge advantage.
He said: “I’m looking forward to working with Dean and Richard again.
“I enjoyed it with them at Brentford. We had a really good relationship there.
“For me to be here and working with those guys is a good feeling. I’m raring to go now.”
Konsa was also a member of the England squad that won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017.
And Smith says the player has a big future ahead of him.
The Villa boss added: “Ezri fits the profile of the type of player we were searching for.
“It helps that Richard O’Kelly and I have worked with him before.
“He’s a high-potential player who I believe can step up to the Premier League and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”
Konsa is set to fly out to the United States with Villa who will play a pre-season match against MLS side Minnesota United in the early hours of Thursday morning UK time.
