Villa spending still not stopping

By Phil Jennings

VILLA’S transfer bandwagon shows no signs of slowing down with new signings set to be announced and more on the way before the window shuts.

Defender Bjoirn Engels’ move from Reims should be confirmed soon along with that of Douglas Luiz who appears to have secured his work permit after a £15million move from Manchester City.

Villa’s USA training camp has not held up Dean Smith’s extensive squad strengthening programme – and more new faces are due to arrive.

Brentford striker Neal Maupay was reportedly moving closer to a move to Villa Park over the weekend after being given time off by the Bees amid transfer speculation also linking him to West Ham, Brighton and Sheffield United.

Villa are still in the hunt for a new keeper, and despite talk of a deal being all but done for Burnley’s Tom Heaton, talk of another move for Stoke’s England stopper Jack Butland will not go away.

Kalvin Phillips continues to be linked with a move to Villa Park despite Leeds’ attempts to keep him and the player’s public wish not to leave Elland Road.

Egyptian winger Trezeguet is another deal that is taking time with Villa still negotiating a fee with his club in Turkey.

And now we have Bruges midfielder Marvelous Nakamba apparently refusing to train with the Belgian side unless he gets a move to Villa who are reported to have offered £8million for the Zimbabwean.

These are exciting times to be a Villa fan, but with so many new players arriving this summer, they will need time to gel.
