Marvelous links still going strong

By Graham Hill

VILLA continue to be linked to Bruges’ rebel midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.

The Zimbabwe international is refusing to take part in pre-season training with the Belgian club as he is ‘trying to force a move to Villa’, say reports.

Nakamba’s representatives say that Villa will soon agree a deal for the player although Bruges are demanding around £11million and, apparently, an offer of around £8million has been rejected.

This saga has drummed up plenty of publicity for the player.

But, if the claims are true, Villa would be signing someone who has already missed half of the club’s pre-season and is not training with Bruges.

So far, there has been little to back up the claims from Nakamba’s representatives that Villa are interested.

But clearly, the player wants a move to the Premier League – and if he signed for Villa, he would be following former team-mate Wesley Moraes who signed in a record £22million deal.

Belgian newspaper Neiuwsblad reports: “Villa is by the way the most concrete for him, but there are also other teams in the running. The chance that Nakamba will ever play in the blue-black shirt is virtually non-existent.”

The fact that Villa had been monitoring Wesley means that must have checked on Nakamba, but this particular transfer tale has run into a dead end for the moment.
