DOUGLAS Luiz says Villa have given him a second chance to make a name for himself in the Premier League.
The Brazilian midfielder, 21, signed for Manchester City as a youth team player two years ago.
But he never played a game for them and was loaned out to Italian life Girona.
Villa saw their chance however – and once work permit issues had been dealt with, Luiz joined in a £15million deal.
He told Villa’s official TV channel: “It’s the start of another stage in my life. I’ve got another chance to play in the Premier League.
“I’m really happy to have signed today and it’s the start of something great.
“Today is a really happy moment in my life and in my career.”
Luiz says he wants to ‘shine’ in the top flight for Villa.
He added: “I hope I can be a leader in the team. I hope I can help by bringing the ball out from the back and, although I don’t speak a lot of English, I hope I can help out by shouting orders from the back and live up to all the expectations as best as I can.
“I hope we have a great season and win a lot of games.
“Right now I’m confident in saying that, God willing, I can shine in the Premier League.
“So I hope I cannot just talk the talk but also walk the walk and that’s my main aim.
“I came here to learn but, more than anything, to dream big and to be a leader on the pitch.”
