THERE has been plenty of talk about Marvelous Nakamba joining Aston Villa – now it looks as though the move is happening.
The Club Bruges midfielder has effectively been on strike since returning from playing for Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations.
He refused to train with Bruges as he tried to force a move to Villa Park.
There have been frequent updates from the Nakamba camp that the deal is on.
But Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur posted on Thursday that the 25-year-old is set to sign for Dean Smith – as Villa’s incredible spending spree carries on.
Yet he says that Villa will be paying £11million – more than they had wanted to with Bruges driving a hard bargain after selling striker Wesley for £22million.
Terreur posted: ‘Confirmed. Soon he will be reunited with Wesley and Bjorn Engels. Marvelous Nakamba is on his way to Aston Villa. Club Brugge will get the fee that they had in mind – more than £11m. Player currently in England. Deal to be completed today or tomorrow.
“Work permit bingo. He has to get 4 points. He played in the Champions League (1 pt), the wages will be fine, as will the fee… (otherwise they would have offered more).”
The Telegraph report that Nakamba flew into the UK on Wednesday evening for a Thursday medical.
With the Douglas Luiz deal all but done – Villa are wrapping up the work permit details for the £15million Brazilian – the club is resembling a revolving door.
And the outlay will soon be more than £120million – an eye watering figure.
Some critics will say that Villa are spending for the sake of it as they have rich owners – and it remains to be seen how good the club’s recruitment policy is.
But there is no doubt these are exciting times for Villa fans – even if many of their new faces are untested in the Premier League.
