KALVIN Phillips appears to be keen on a move to Villa – even if he has to wait a year.
The Sun says that Phillips is snubbing a new Leeds contract and wants to go to Villa Park – if not this season, then next.
Boss Dean Smith has signed two midfielders in recent days.
And Villa Roar understands that Smith is now looking for a new keeper and a forward to complete his his summer spending spree.
Deals to bring in Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba – with an announcement on the Zimbabwean expected soon – mean Smith is well stocked in the centre of midfield.
That is not to say another new signing could arrive with the transfer deadline still 10 days off.
But Smith appeared to have admitted defeat in trying to sign Phillips, 23, who had been a long term term target for the Villa boss.
Leeds put a £30million price tag on the player and that proved too rich for Villa who did not want to spend more than £15million – which was the fee they paid for Luiz.
The Sun says that Phillips could let his contract run down and then make himself available on a free next summer if Leeds are still in the Championship.
Phillips is likely to stay on Smith’s radar, even if he cannot find room for him in this window.
