DOUGLAS Luiz claims he is ready to play some part in Villa’s opening fixture of the season at Tottenham on Saturday.
The Brazilian midfielder signed in a £15million deal from Manchester City, but only had his work permit confirmed five days before the Spurs game.
Luiz says he wants to play at least 45 minutes according to Brazil’s Globo Esporte.
But considering the 21-year-old has missed all of Villa’s pre-season it would be asking a lot to shoehorn him into Dean Smith’s midfield line up now.
Luiz was due to fly back into the UK from Brazil on Tuesday – but it is likely Smith already knows his starting line up for the Spurs game.
And with Luiz’s involvement uncertain until this week while the Home Office assessed his case for a permit, it is doubtful Smith will change his plans.
But City will be looking at Luiz’s situation with interest – they have an option to buy back a player who could not get a work permit while he was part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.
A season of Premier Legaue football means he would have few problems renewing his permit City made a move for the player’s return to the Etihad Stadium.
