REPORT: Villa eye Rodrigo move

By Graham Hill

VILLA are believed to be checking on Rodrigo from Valencia – but the player is valued at £55million.

Rodrigo Moreno Machado, 28, also plays for Spain as a winger or striker and started his career with Real Madrid where he played for their reserve side.

Reports from Spain say number of English clubs have asked about him, and Villa are thought to be one of them.

The link seems possible but ambitious. After spending almost £140million on 12 players so far – you wonder how much is left in the kitty, while FFP rules could also come into play at some stage.

Also, Villa now seem to be aiming at the £8-10million price range in a bid to compete their squad.

Algeria forward Said Benrahma is tantalisingly close to coming to Villa Park – but Brentford are still playing hardball.

There are mixed reports on Villa’s two other striker targets Jean Kevin-Augustin of RB Leipzig, and Galatasary’s Senegal striker Mbaye Diagne.

It would seem that some targets are more urgent than others – with some players mentioned as a backup.

But Villa have a string of forward options on their list as they prepare to bring in at least one more signing before the transfer window shuts.

Boss Dean Smith will want to strengthen up front before the start of the new season – and if he can move Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan on before the deadline that will free up more funds.

One report suggests Hogan could be on his way to Stoke City.
