Villa striker completes loan move

VILLA striker Scott Hogan has signed for Stoke City on a season-long loan.

The 27-year-old completed the formalities of his move on Wednesday and becomes the Potters’ eighth signing of the summer transfer window.

Manager Nathan Jones said: “I’m really pleased that have managed to bring Scott to the club. He will add really quality to our attacking options and his record at Championship level is very good in terms of goals per game.

“He had a fantastic time at Brentford but it hasn’t quite worked out for him at Villa but these things happen. We want him to find a home with us, start playing again and score goals.”

Chief Executive Tony Scholes added: “Scott has a proven pedigree in the Championship and is really keen to make a big impression during his time with us. We’re delighted to have secured a deal to bring him to the club.”

After a spell in non-league football Hogan finally made his breakthrough with Rochdale during the 2013-14 season, scoring 19 goals in 40 appearances.

That earned him a move to Brentford where he continued his impressive run of goal-scoring form with a return of 21 from 33 league games.

He joined Villa two years ago and has made more than 50 league appearances for them and also spent last season on loan with Sheffield United.
